Tron Roller Coaster Location
The Tron coaster will be located in Tomorrowland behind Space Mountain and the Tomorrowland Speedway. Because of Tron’s location in Tomorrowland, the ride features bright neon colors and futuristic architecture.
Many Disney guests are also curious about the Tron Lightcycle Run height requirement. The Tron height requirement will be 48 inches making it one of the highest height requirements at the Magic Kingdom.
Tron Lightcycle Run Roller Coaster
Like I mentioned earlier, Disney World’s Tron will be opening on April 4th, 2023. As of today, cast member previews are already ongoing and annual passholders will get a chance to check out Tron in March.
Tron is an indoor-outdoor roller coaster that is themed based on the Tron movie originally released in 1982 and the Tron legacy movie released in 2010.
Disney’s Tron roller coaster has a unique design as riders will need to transport to motorcycle type ride vehicles. Like a typical roller coaster though, Disney World’s Tron features speeds close to 60 mph, drops, hills, and elevates riders to move than 70 feet above ground.
During the indoor portions of Tron lightcycle, guests will be in the dark as they race through the future. Tron has many of the features people love in roller coasters with the unique spin of a motorcycle type ride vehicle.
For all thrill seekers, Tron Lightcycle Run is a Disney World ride that you must check out!
Tron Roller Coaster Ride Vehicle
One of the most controversial things about Disney’s Tron Lightcycle Run is the ride vehicle. If you have ridden Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom then the Tron ride vehicle is very similar.
On the Tron ride vehicle, you will sit on the motorcycle similar to a bike. One leg will be on each side of the seat and you will push all the way forward. Two restraints will lock in place once you are seated. One restraint will attach to your back and another set of restraints will lock your calves in place.
Because of the unique ride vehicle, some Disney guests may have a hard time riding in the Tron Lightcycle run ride vehicle. Some larger or taller individuals may find the Tron lightcycle run vehicle uncomfortable.
Disney added Tron ride vehicle in front of the ride entrance so Disney guests can gauge their comfort level before getting in line for Tron. If you have any questions or concerns, I would recommend trying out the Tron vehicle before your ride.
It’s also important to note that some Tron vehicle trains have a regular roller coaster type seat in the back of the train. This regular Tron seat will accommodate guests that can’t fit into the unique Tron ride vehicle comfortably.
While Tron has a unique ride system but there are still plenty of options for every Disney guest to enjoy Disney’s Tron Lightcycle Run.
Disney World’s Tron Locker System
Disney is introducing a new locker system with the opening of Tron Lightcycle Run. Because of Tron’s ride vehicle, all riders will be required to place their personal belonging is a locker before getting on the Tron ride.
These Tron lockers will be double sided and can be accessed through your MagicBand or Disney park ticket. Before getting on Tron, you will open an empty locker with your MagicBand or park ticket and you will pick your stuff up after riding Tron.
Tron Virtual Queue Strategy
Like all the other new Walt Disney World rides lately, Tron Lightcycle Run will be utilizing a virtual queue. Disney guests will use the My Disney Experience app to enter the queue at 7 AM for the morning drop of Tron availability and 1 PM for the afternoon drop.
Based on the popularity of other Disney World rides that have used the virtual queue, Tron virtual queue slots will go really fast so make sure you are on the My Disney Experience app right at 7 AM or 1 PM.
Another important thing to note about the Tron virtual queue is you will need a Park Pass reservation at the Magic Kingdom in order to access the virtual queue. Check out our post on the Disney Park Pass System for more information on securing your reservation.
There is one other option to ride Disney World Tron Lightcycle Run. Disney’s Tron will probably be added as an Disney individual lightening lane for the Magic Kingdom as well.
Disney guests can purchase an individual lightening lane for Tron at 7 AM. Based on the price of other rides, the Tron individual lightening lane will probably cost between $10 and $15 and can also be purchased on My Disney Experience at 7 AM.
The best Disney World Tron strategy is getting an individual lightening lane and virtual queue in the same day. This allows you to ride Disney’s Tron twice in one day.
Double dipping and riding Tron with both the virtual queue and individual lightening lane will require luck at 7 AM but this is a great hack for riding Tron!
Overall Thoughts on Disney World’s Tron
The Tron roller coaster is going to be a great addition to the Magic Kingdom. Tron will add another e-ticket attraction to the Magic Kingdom and will be a great addition for thrill seekers.
It will be difficult to get a Tron lightening lane or virtual queue during the first few months after Tron’s opening date but it will be worth all the effort and time. Make sure to check out the Tron Lightcycle Run on your next Walt Disney World vacation!
