Returning Disneyland Nighttime Shows
When Disney World and Disneyland reopened from the pandemic, the Disneyland nighttime shows never returned. Disney opted to not have nighttime shows to prevent people from gathering while the pandemic was ongoing.
Since the world is starting to open back up, Disneyland is reintroducing their nighttime shows in 2022. Disneyland Forever, World of Color, and Fantasmic will all return in Spring 2022.
Both Disneyland Forever and World of Color will return in April 2022 and Fantasmic will return to Disneyland in May 2022.
If you are wondering what these Disneyland 2022 nighttime shows are, Disneyland Forever is the Disneyland Park firework show that runs only on the weekends. World of Color is a nighttime spectacular at Disney’s California Adventure that runs every night.
Finally, Fantasmic is a nighttime show at Disneyland Park featuring Mickey, Minnie, and the rest of your favorite Disney characters. Fantasmic runs every night at the Disneyland Park. Fantasmic is also a Disney World nightime show too!
Disneyland nighttime shows are the one most magical parks to any Disney vacation so make sure to check out one or multiple of these Disneyland 2022 shows on your next Disney trip!
Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade
Since I started going to Disney Parks in the 90’s, I love the nostalgic Disney nighttime parades. Disneyland is bringing back the Main Street Electrical Parade in April 2022.
The Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade has been around for 50 years in 2022. This iteration of the Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade will celebrate this milestone anniversary.
The Disney parades are 100% my favorite Disney nighttime spectacular so make sure to check out the Disneyland Main Street Parade on your next Disney trip! For more information on the Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade, check out the Disney Park Blog.
Mickey’s Toontown Reimagined
Disneyland’s Mickey’s Toontown closed for a major renovation in 2022 and plans to reopen in 2023. Disney’s plan is to reimage Mickey’s Toontown so families and young kids can enjoy their Disney vacations in a new way.
In the new Disneyland Mickey’s Toontown, there will even be a parental relaxation area while the little ones run around. Also apart of the reenvisioned Disneyland Mickey’s Toontown is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway was supposed to open in 2022 but with the construction delays this new Disneyland attraction will open in 2023.
My favorite part of Disneyland’s Toontown is the homes of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. Luckily these will still remain after the Toontown renovation. Look forward to the upgraded Disneyland Toontown coming in 2023.
Disneyland Avengers Campus
One of the biggest additions to Disneyland in the last few years is the Avengers Campus. The first phase of the Avengers Campus and the Spider Man Web Slinger attraction opened in the summer of 2021.
You may be wondering, what is the Avengers Campus? This portion of Disneyland brings your favorite super heroes and Marvel movies to life.
The first Avengers Campus attractions are Spider Man Web Slingers and Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout.
Spider Man Web Slingers is fast-paced spinning ride that allows you to use Web Slinging technology. Guardians Mission Breakout allows you to rescue the Guardians but the journey will feature large drops and fast speeds.
There will be future iterations of the Disneyland Avengers Campus that will feature a Black Panther ride and more. The next phase of the Disneyland Avenger Campus is anticipated to open in 2024.
Disneyland Genie Plus
The Disneyland MAXPASS or “fastpass” system was paused when the Disney Parks closed because of the pandemic. But in December 2021, the new Disneyland “fastpass” system was introduced called Disney Genie Plus.
Disneyland’s Genie Plus is paid system that allows Disney guests to skip the line. The Disneyland Genie Plus system costs $20 per person per day.
Along with the Genie Plus system, a few select Disneyland rides have Individual Lighting Lanes. These attractions aren’t included in the Disneyland Genie Plus and are an addition cost.
The new Disneyland Genie Plus system is pretty complicated but it does help save a ton of time at the Disney Parks. For more information and tips on how to use Disneyland’s Genie Plus, check out our complete Genie Plus guide!
Snow White’s Enchanted Wish
One great family attractions at Disneyland is Snow White’s Enchanted Wish and this Disneyland ride received a refresh in 2021. The Snow White Enchanted Wish update will now feature new music, animations, visual technology and more.
This Disneyland update will bring the seven dwarfs to life, bring a happily ever after to Snow White, and feature your favorite Disney music!
Snow White’s Enchanted Wish officially reopened in Spring 2021 but since the pandemic closure, many guests still haven’t had a chance to experience the revamped Snow White’s Enchanted Wish at Disneyland in 2022.
Disneyland Hotel Updates
In late 2021, it was announced that the Disneyland hotel is receiving a new Disney Vacation Club addition! The new DVC addition will be a 12 story tower with 350 units adjacent to the current Disneyland hotel.
Now I know you may be asking how this relates to Disneyland 2022 changes. The new Disneyland hotel addition will take a few years to complete but Disney guest are likely to see construction on this starting at Disneyland in 2022.
If you are DVC fan or someone looking to stay on Disneyland property in the coming years, you should look forward to this Disneyland addition since Disneyland hotel rooms are hard to come by.
Downtown Disney Construction
Starting in 2022, Downtown Disney at Disneyland will undergo construction getting a major face lift. While the Downtown Disney construction will start in 2022, the Disneyland Downtown area construction won’t be complete for a few years.
So what will the new Downtown Disney look like? The Disneyland renovation will feature new dining, shopping, and entertainment offerings with a mid-century, modern design.
Some of current Downtown Disney offerings like Earl of Sandwich and the AMC theater will be demolished with new venues filling their places.
It’s unclear what new restaurants and shops are coming to the revamped Disneyland Downtown area yet but this will definitely be a Disneyland 2022 change to look forward to.
Disneyland MagicBand+ and HeyDisney
Since roughly 2010, the Disney MagicBand has been an integral part to any Disney vacation. The MagicBand is getting face lift in 2022 with the new MagicBand+.
The new Disney MagicBands will still have features like opening your hotel room door and allowing for charging at Disney Parks.
The Disney MagicBand Plus available in 2022 will further immerse Disney guests in the parks. Make sure to check out this new Disneyland 2022 addition!
Also as a part of the Disneyland 2022 changes, Disneyland will be installing Amazon Echo Devices called Hey Disney in all Disneyland resort rooms.
The Hey Disney system will use Alexa and Amazon technology to get vocal updates on what’s going around in Disneyland and at your Disney resort.
Disney guests will start seeing the Hey Disney systems in their Disneyland hotel rooms in 2022. This is just another Disneyland 2022 change to look forward to at the Disney Parks!
